We are delighted to announce that Dr. Virginia P. Sisiopiku, Professor of Transportation Engineering at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), will deliver a keynote speech at CSuM2026 titled “Impacts of Digital Technology on Sustainable Transportation.”
In her talk, Dr. Sisiopiku will explore how cutting-edge digital technologies—such as artificial intelligence (AI), big data, automation, robotics, and connectivity—are transforming the transportation sector. She will discuss how these innovations can enhance sustainability by improving traffic management, optimizing electric vehicle performance, supporting shared mobility, and increasing the efficiency of freight logistics. The presentation will also address key challenges, including the growing energy demands of digital systems and the need for regulatory and institutional adaptation.
Dr. Sisiopiku is the founding director of the Transportation Engineering and Development (TREND) Laboratory and serves as UAB Transportation Program Director. With over 30 years of experience in traffic operations, intelligent transportation systems, and sustainable mobility, she has received numerous distinctions, including the 2025 TRB Charley V. Wooten Best Paper in Transportation Policy and Organization Award and recognition by Business Alabama as one of the state’s Top Women in Tech.
Her keynote will offer valuable insights into the potential of digital transformation to shape the future of sustainable and resilient transportation systems.
