We are pleased to announce a dedicated special session titled “Co-designing Inclusive and Sustainable Urban Mobility through Collaboration and Innovation”, showcasing cutting-edge approaches that reshape how cities plan, design, and implement people-centered mobility systems across Europe. Drawing from the Horizon Europe project ELABORATOR, this session brings together leading experts to explore how participatory design, digital tools, and evidence-driven strategies can accelerate the shift toward accessible, safe, and climate-neutral mobility.
Through presentations from Trikala, Zaragoza, Barcelona, Helsinki, Milan, Copenhagen, and Issy-les-Moulineaux, the session highlights real-world applications of gender-sensitive planning, gamified co-design tools, living lab methodologies, sensor-enabled mobility interventions, and advanced traffic simulations.
Topics include:
Gender-inclusive mobility planning in Trikala, informed by intersectional and data-driven insights.
Superbarrio, a digital gamification platform empowering citizens to redesign public spaces for safer and more accessible travel.
Zaragoza’s Living Lab, using participatory methods and data toolkits to support tactical urbanism and engage communities in mobility transformation.
Collaboration practices for sustainable transport, emphasizing stakeholder and user engagement as crucial enablers of successful interventions.
Smart mobility solutions in Trikala, including smart crossings, sensor-enabled bike infrastructure, park-and-ride facilities, and citizen engagement workshops.
Simulation and upscaling of mobility interventions across six European cities, providing comparative insights into safety, traffic efficiency, and environmental impact.
Moderated by Jason Sioutis (ICCS), the session brings together leading researchers, planners, engineers, and policy innovators to explore how digital co-creation, community participation, and data analytics can deliver scalable impacts for cities of all sizes.
This special session aligns with CSUM tracks on Active, Shared and Inclusive Mobility, Emerging Technologies for Sustainable Mobility, and Policy Innovation and Collective Governance, offering a rich perspective on the future of sustainable and equitable urban transport.
