Summer School

During CSuM2026, two international summer schools will be held, offered by the conference co-organizers: the University of Thessaly, the University of Kentucky and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Graduate students, researchers, and professionals will expand their knowledge and skills in the practical applications of sustainability policy, planning, and management.

  1. Summer School 1 — Neighborhood-Scale Sustainability

This summer school offers an intensive workshop on the neighbourhood scale as a unit for sustainable design and development, using the framework of LEED for Neighborhood Development (LEED ND). Through lectures, case-studies and group-based mapping and design exercises, participants will explore how smart location, neighbourhood pattern and green infrastructure strategies can be applied in a real-world context.

  1. Summer School 2 — Sustainable Urban & Participatory Planning

Building upon the goals of the INVEST European University Alliance (which emphasises regional sustainability, innovation, and joint educational programmes), this school will focus on sustainable urban development with a strong participatory planning dimension. Trainees will engage with innovation-based, inclusive and stakeholder-led urban design approaches, leveraging digital tools and collaborative methods to shape more resilient and human-oriented urban environments.

  • Date: 1 – 3 July 2026
  • Certification: A certificate of successful completion will be issued.
  • Participation: Admission to the summer schools is free to conference participants. Please note that places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
Further information (detailed programme, application form, eligibility) will be made available very soon.
