Summer Schools
We are pleased to announce two international Summer Schools that will take place alongside CSuM2026, addressing key contemporary challenges in sustainable urban development, mobility, and planning. The Summer Schools combine lectures, case studies, participatory activities, and hands-on exercises, offering participants a unique opportunity to deepen their theoretical understanding while developing practical, policy-relevant skills.
Both Summer Schools are designed for undergraduate students in their last year of studies, graduate students, researchers, academics, and professionals working in the fields of transportation, urban planning, sustainability, and related disciplines and will take place from Tuesday, June 30 to Friday, July 3, 2026.
Community-Scale Sustainability
This Summer School focuses on the community scale as a critical unit for sustainable urban design and development, with particular emphasis on neighborhood sustainability assessment and active mobility. Participants are introduced to the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Neighborhood Development (LEED ND) framework and explore strategies for enhancing pedestrian and bicyclist infrastructure at the local level.
Through lectures, case studies, and group-based mapping and design exercises, participants will:
- Apply LEED ND principles to assess neighborhood sustainability,
- Examine smart location and neighborhood pattern strategies,
- Address pedestrian and bicyclist sustainable design
Sustainable Urban & Participatory Planning
This Summer School addresses the growing challenges of city logistics, focusing on sustainable delivery solutions and participatory planning approaches. Participants explore innovative measures such as cargo bikes, consolidation schemes, and freight on public transport, while assessing their performance through structured, stakeholder-driven evaluation processes.
A core component of the Summer School is the use of the EVALOG decision-support platform, enabling participants to:
- Compare alternative urban delivery solutions,
- Simulate participatory planning processes through focus groups,
- Translate stakeholder inputs into evidence-based policy recommendations.
Both summer schools include preparatory material and a mandatory pre-school assignment, followed by interactive lectures, participatory exercises, and a final reflection required for certification.

Fee information
There are no participation fees for registered participants of CSuM2026, allowing them to attend one of the Summer Schools with no additional cost.
For participants who are not registered for the conference the fee is set at:
- 100 euros for undergraduate students
- 200 euros for all other participants
The participation fee includes full access to the selected Summer School, certificate of attendance, meals (coffee breaks, lunch breaks, welcome cocktail, and an official dinner) and Conference participation in limited number of sessions of CSuM2026.
